Apple vs Android: Enterprise wins either way with FieldOne

In the ongoing battle of Apple versus Android, there’s one perspective managers may not have considered when deliberating over how to equip their technicians: which platform is gaining in developer hours and attention?

In a recent CIO post, the winner of enterprise app developers is Apple, while Android is ahead for consumer app developers’ attention.

According to a new mobile report by Appcelerator and the International Data Corporation, a slight majority of over 3,500 developers surveyed around the world – 53% – said they believed Apple’s iOS will eventually win over enterprise app development. That left a little over 37% who  claimed Android would lead the enterprise space. Note – less than a year ago, developers asked the same question were tied with 44% for each platform.

However, the report also showed that compared with Q1 of this year, Android has managed to halt its developer disinterest, stabilizing interest in Android handsets and tablet devices.

What it often comes down to for enterprises making the decision is the fear of difficulties associated with Android’s fragmentation and malware susceptibility. Both of those potential technical issues are absent from Apple’s platform.

In addition, the iPad’s success across several field service industries (and beyond) is lending a ‘halo effect’ for other Apple products, iPhone included.

Uncertain which way to sway? Fear not: FieldOne has developed mobile app versions for both Android and iOS. No need to base your decision on FieldOne’s availability; focus instead on your preferred operating system and device hardware, and install the FieldOne Terra or Sky mobile apps on your licensed devices.
